POST 10 >> ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES

Hi classmates,


First of all, I want to say that the subject of English, for me, has been a bit overwhelming since it complicated my class schedules a bit, but anyway, the course is about to end.


In general, it seems to me that adding the subject of English at a general level in the university is a great step forward for what the world needs today. At least in my experience, English classes seem to me to be a good opportunity to learn with very good teachers.

One of the things that I do not like about the subject is its way of acting in front of the student mobilizations, since these events are not respected, this is because English in our university is a general platform, in the same way this does not It should be like that.


The blogs we do every week are very useful to apply the knowledge learned during the classes and also to know our colleagues through what they write.

 It is one of the best tools that the English subject has, since it is a very progressive process, which goes from less to more, that is what I like most about blogs.


English for me has always cost me more to practice it and put it into practice at the moment of speaking than to understand a text or conversation. For this, what I think I need to have a more correct English, is to speak more in this language, not only in classes but at all times.

To be realistic, there are very few times I practice English outside of school hours, which is something I do or should improve. My practice of English outside the classroom, is limited to reading some small texts in English about the career I study, because for that, there is much material on  Internet.

POST 9 >> CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

One of the changes that I have always had in mind for the Theory of Music career, is that all subjects are given the same importance, in terms of califications and academic load. In this way, other interests could be evidenced in the students and guide them towards other professional opportunities.

As for the curriculum, I have 7 or 8 subjects per semester, I currently have 7, they are: Musical Language, Keyboard Workshop, Music-culture and society, Polyphony, Vocal Workshop, Guitar Workshop and English. These subjects all correspond to the semester number 4 of the career.


Normally the workload is quite heavy, it includes a lot of work and concentration at a theoretical and practical level. The duration of the complete career is 12 semesters, 8 semesters of degree and 4 professional specialization (choral director or Professor specialized in general theory of music). Many of the students who enter the program, only decide to finish with the degree, it is under the percentage that specializes.

As for the faculty where we study, I think it is a building with few possibilities to share with the other students of the other programs, we only have a small terrace of a few meters as a resting place. I think our building needs remodeling, in some places it looks very damaged by the passage of time and lacks more modern and technological resources like those in other faculties of the university.

Actually, the use of technology in our faculty is only used in the library, which does not mean that it is a modern library, but in that place a good use of computers, Internet access, etc. is made.

Finally, from my point of view, the teaching method that is used in our career is to transmit knowledge inherited many years ago. Typical teaching of what was the old music conservatory.

Despite all this, it is an excellent place to study music.

POST 8 >> SUMMER PLANS

I want the holidays to arrive quickly ...

The semester at the university has been a bit strange and long, so I'm tired, I do not want more.

I have in mind to work in January in some common job, and then in February to play in several concerts that are already scheduled.

This summer I will love visiting Concepción or La Serena, they are places that I love because they are a little less hostile than Santiago and the people are more friendly and nice.

 The truth is that I would like to spend all the time on vacation with my family in my native Curicó, but there are responsibilities that I can not fail to fulfill here in Santiago, although in reality I will be traveling very often to visit my family. On the other hand, I would like to spend quality time with my friends, since in the year, there are few instances where we can share in a good way and not to setbacks.

As I said at the beginning of the publication, I plan to work and participate in concerts, either as a musician or as a public. Although in reality, I have to evaluate very well the possibility of working since the semester, apparently it will end very late and it will be a heavy semester end. I am hoping to have clarity of this aspect to make a real decision about what I will do in my vacation and with whom I will spend it, it is terrible haha.

POST 7 >> "YOUR FAVORITE BOOK"

Whenever I wonder about who is my favorite author, I find it difficult to find an accurate answer. But surely my favorite author is Arthur Conan Doyle.

Particularly Conan Doyle has a very particular and mysterious way of narrating the facts, especially in the books of his best known work, Sherlock Holmes.

  I really like reading books about crime stories, science fiction and action, based on real events. That's the kind of books I enjoy reading when I'm quiet in my house.

When I was in elementary school, I had to read a book by Arthur Conan Doyle, called  "Cinco pepitas de naranja" was a book that I loved from beginning to end, and that quickly became my favorite book, even though I read other books of some other genres. To this day I keep that book inside my nightstand.

The last book I read, was not Arthur Conan Doyle, but one of my other favorite authors, Nicanor Parra. The book that I read lately is called "Discursos de sobremesa"

 It is a book that I would recommend only if you have already read other texts by Nicanor Parra, since he has a very particular style of writing, it is really fantastic.

Lately I have had little time to read a book or several, it is an activity with which I am a little debit. I hope the holidays come later to be able to do that again.

POST 5 >> MY FUTURE JOB

I consider myself lucky, because somehow I am already working on what I would like to work in the near future. Playing music and teaching, is what I've been passionate since childhood, or rather since I made the decision to come to Santiago to formally take music studies.

The truth is that this work I imagine, similar to my current reality, but with a much harder academic and academic load, with more responsibilities to fulfill and much more music to do and share. Regarding the physical location of my future work, I believe that both places (working outdoors or in one place) are compatible for my career and my future job, since on the one hand, it is taught in a classroom, and on the other, outdoor concerts are held.

Continuing with this same theme, I have always had in mind to travel through several countries, with the aim of being able to study a lot, share music with people of other cultures and thus have a great enrichment, obviously, the salary that I would like to have should be able to solve these expenses, for that you have to work very hard.

Apparently it is very clear that the specialty that I want to devote to is music, and everything that has to do with that, is something fantastic. It is probably what I love most in life, there are no more explanations.

Always studying something related to Art will give you the possibility of practicing that profession before you finish university.

POST 3 "MY FAVORITE FILM"

My favorite movie has always been Spiderman.

 I like it because it is a film that is related to a comic, and it tells very common, realistic situations and that also combines science fiction, in the whole plot of the movie. In general, science fiction movies are my favorite, I could not say exactly because I like them so much, but since I was a child I loved this kind of movies, especially those that have to do with technology related to the human body, cyborgs and things like that

The last movie I saw, is not exactly the style I like the most, I saw a horror movie called "La Monja"

 is a good story, good actors and characters, but it is not a movie I would recommend, because there are certain events that They do not explain themselves very well, I was left with some gaps after seeing them ...

Science fiction movies, are usually based on some realistic fact, so there is knowledge of things that are not always easily visible or understandable, that is something very important, since you have to understand key things to understand small things in the films. That makes it a very interesting genre.

POST 2 >> THE BEST HOLIDAYS / CONCERT EVER

Well, talk about the best concert I went to.

The concert was performed by Silvio Rodríguez at the Movistar Arena on October 9, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. It was a real pleasure to be able to listen to him live and with that tremendous band he has, the sound was an unforgettable marvel.

For those who do not know Silvio Rodríguez, I will tell you a bit about the ...

He is the most important Cuban war artist that exists, it is a phenomenal phenomenon in the way of singing and playing the guitar. It became known in a very strong political context, as well as during the Cuban Revolution, because many people talk about political issues. He is an artist who deserves to be heard.

Well, when I was going to get to Movistar Arena with my father, people were very excited about the concert, there were miles of people singing their songs in the park, people selling T-shirts with their name, they felt incredible energy. At about 8 o'clock in the evening, the Movistar Arena stadium was inflamed, and of course, my father and I were too.

At 9 o'clock at night, the lights went out, and Silvio's guitar appeared illuminated by a spotlight, people applauded until they were tired.

Without a doubt, it was a spectacular concert. People will not stop singing in the whole show.
